Libertarian Meetups Offer Opportunities for Discussion, Networking and Politics

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- At the time Travis Cross chartered the first libertarian Meetup in Indiana, Ron Paul was a little-known congressman from Texas and the Meetup forum had not begun its explosion into political circles.

Cross, the former District 7 representative to the LPIN State Central Committee, created the group meeting four years ago this month. The discussion group was only the 42nd libertarian club in the country and quickly grew to become a fixture in the top ten largest libertarian groups within the online community.

Today, over 300 groups exist within the libertarian category, with group membership eclipsing 18,000. While much of the interest grew as the Ron Paul phenomenon took over the communities, these groups are not alone in experiencing the growth.

In Indiana, two new Libertarian Party Meetups were recently started in northern Indiana, South Bend/Michiana and Lake County. That brings the total number of state Meetups to eight.

     Bloomington/Monroe County - Group #280
     Elkhart County - Group #298
     Hamilton County -- Group #287
     Indianapolis - Group #42
     Lake County/Region - Group #403
     LaPorte County/SW Michigan - Group #347
     Greater Louisville/Southeast Indiana - Group #303
     Michiana/South Bend - Group #400

Meetups typically include a regularly scheduled (monthly) discussion group. Most Meetups occur in the weekday evenings at bookstore cafes, restaurants, coffee shops or private residences. To join, look into the existing Meetups or consider starting your own in your region.
