LPIN Seeks State and Local Candidates

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - In a year dominated by property tax rallies, infringements on civil liberties and complete disregard for private property, the time is ripe for the Libertarian Party of Indiana to field its deepest and most qualified field of candidates in its history.

"Every level, absolutely every level," notes LPIN State Chairman Todd Singer as he emphatically talks about where candidates are needed this election year. "When you consider what is happening with both economic and social policy at the federal, state and local levels, we clearly need strong candidates at each of these."

"We have landlord ordinances being pushed unfairly by local and state government bodies. We have new taxes for restaurants and retail businesses. We have the federal government jumping further into the murky waters of private industry bailouts. Of course, we have reason to be alarmed and more reason to run solid candidates," stressed Singer.

The Libertarian Party of Indiana does not participate in the taxpayer funded primary election. Convention season is winding down, but time remains for vacancy filings for interested candidates.

"Two years ago, we had nearly a dozen candidates tossed off the ballot on a technicality," noted Singer. "We are a threat to the two-party system and nothing showed us that more than their removal of choice from the ballot in 2006. We simply did not have the deep pockets to fight it effectively then. But, we're back this year stronger than in 2006."

Candidates nominated at local conventions require paperwork signed by the county officers. For candidates seeking office in unaffiliated counties that paperwork must be completed by state officers. If candidates are chosen post-convention -- even in affiliated counties -- those candidates require state officer signatures on the accompanying paperwork.

To express interest in running for office, check out your local affiliates or contact Bill Milroy at LPIN HQ at 317-920-1994.

"We'd love to run a state full of Ron Paul-like candidates at all levels," Singer concluded. "Paul's efforts have really helped shine light on a strong libertarian philosophy. Now we just have to find those people who are interested and willing."
