Maguire: How I will Vote on Wishard This Tuesday
Submitted by lpin_ed on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 15:32 |By Timothy Maguire, Libertarian Party of Marion County Chairman
Does Wishard need a new hospital? Is their old one deteriorating? Can Indianapolis survive if Wishard fades away? Will this new referendum increase my taxes?
All good questions. But Libertarians have good cause to mistrust the government’s claims: Its’s needed now, and it won’t cost you anything. Remember the library? The last couple of stadiums built? Bailouts?
I would urge everyone to tell the government “STOP!” this Tuesday, and let’s look at more solutions before we give approval to this new hospital, a building that we haven’t been told how it WILL be paid for.
Wishard’s side of this arguement has been circulated far and wide by the media and the marketing efforts of Wishard themselves. (They’re putting a lot of effort behind it, and they have a lot of money to gain from this referendum).
City-County Council Doublespeak

Press Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In back to back votes, a majority of Council Republicans voted to transfer $1 million of taxpayer money to private “arts organizations” and then immediately moved to restrict the freedom of speech of panhandlers who may be passively seeking VOLUNTARY contributions.
Tim Maguire, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Marion County said “There are already significant laws on the books regarding panhandling that perhaps just need better enforcement, but this fell on deaf ears as Republicans worked to rob taxpayers on behalf of private arts organizations and then, immediately following, tried to tell poor people they can’t even hold a sign asking for money.”
The Libertarian Party's CIB Solution
Submitted by lpin_ed on Wed, 04/29/2009 - 09:01 |Indianapolis, IN - Hoosiers have become increasingly concerned about the current crisis the CIB is facing, and for good reason. Budget shortfalls were predicted but ignored, and now the city has to find ways to fulfill its contractual obligations. While Libertarians would never have created this situation, offered below is the Libertarian Party's solution to this current mess.
"There is no excuse to force those who don't use the stadiums to pay for short-sightedness of the CIB," state Timothy Maguire, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Marion County. "That's why I'm proud to present our plan to save the good name of our City without unnecessarily taxing its citizens."

LP of Marion County: It's Time to Stop The Bailouts
Submitted by lpin_ed on Thu, 04/02/2009 - 14:40 |Indianapolis, IN - Indiana Senator Luke Kenley (R) and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard (R) presented the State's plan to bailout the Indianapolis Capital Improvement Board (CIB) today. Instead of asking the users of CIB properties in Indianapolis to step up and pay their fair share first, lawmakers will be considering a statewide increase of alcohol taxes, ticket taxes, food and beverage taxes, and the Innkeepers tax.
Timothy Maguire, chairman of the Libertarian Party of Marion County, criticized the move to attach this bailout to the state budget. "There is no excuse to force those who don't directly use the stadiums to pay for the short-sightedness of the CIB first."
"The appropriate step should be a direct tax on the immediate users of the CIB facilities," said Maguire. "These Republican-sponsored increases will give us the highest hospitality taxes in the nation, which will only serve to drive off the convention business the City leadership claims to protect. Hurting a $3 Billion industry with unwise taxes will only put more Hoosiers out of work."
LPIN Podcast: 012 Tim Maguire on the Two-Party Duopoly on Government Power, By the Rules
Submitted by lpin_ed on Tue, 03/10/2009 - 12:21 |The petty retribution served up to City-County Councilor by both parties was fully within the rules. The episode revealed that the rules are more about protecting the power of those parties than with inclusion, transparency, or ethics.
Maguire is the Chair of the Marion County LP, and he discusses the effect the vague rules have on full participation for elected third party members of government bodies.
