Horning: Fierce Individualists Needed

By Andrew Horning, orginally posted on his blog We Declare.

Can you eschew obfuscation? Are you direct and unambiguous in your written words? Have you read and understood your state and federal constitutions to the depth and breadth that most people think is stupid?

I’d like to hire you, at twice what I’m getting paid, to help me devise a plan for a Phoenix-like resurrection of liberty and justice for all.

All races, genders, religions and even sports preferences welcome. But I’m looking for a particular species of ideologue.

If you truly understand and desire free markets, individual accountability and, in general, governed government, then join me. If you know others who you think would be a good fit as well, bring ‘em along.

Here’s why:

Andrew Horning Awarded the LPIN's Lifetime Achievement Award

Steve Dasbach Chairman's Award for Extraordinary Service: Awarded to an individual that has helped grow the Libertarian Party of Indiana in extraordinary ways over many years. This award is not voted on by LPIN membership, and it is the sole privilege of the Chair of the LPIN to award it to the recipient.

Andrew Horning has been selected by Chairman Todd Singer as this year's recipient.

"It is my honor to recognize Andy Horning for his many contributions to the Libertarian Party of Indiana. Andy has served the party many times as a candidate as well as a resource for all things Constitutional (Federal and State), and for its true meaning, the rule of law.

Andy has run for the positions of State Representative-District 96 (1996), Marion County Recorder (1998), Mayor of Indianapolis (1999), Governor (2000), 7th District of Congress (2002), and Governor once again (2008) under the Libertarian banner. He is a strong candidate that has represented us well in the media, and in person. He is especially adept at inspiring and energizing younger voters with his message of freedom, personal responsibility, and Constitutional government.

Time and time again, Andy is cited as the first introduction Hoosiers have had to the Libertarian Party of Indiana, and also the original intent of our Constitution, the rule of law. His work and sacrifice as a candidate has nurtured Andy Horning is one of the main reasons that I became a Libertarian, and it is my privilege to recognize Andy for his extraordinary service with this award."

LPIN Podcast: 015 Andy Horning discusses the state sovereignty movement, the 10th Amendment, and rule of law

Andy Horning thinks so highly of constitutions that he made the Indiana constitution his platform in his 2008 campaign for governor. So, one might expect him to be ecstatic at the attention being paid now to the 10th Amendment and the state sovereignty movement. He is. Sort of. As always, the devil is in the details.

Horning sat down with me recently to discuss the need of activists to ask the right questions, so that they may hit the right targets in their efforts to broaden liberty, and to reduce government power.

Indiana Federalism Resolution Filed As Senate Concurrent Resolution 37

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- As friends, fans and admirers of prominent Indiana Libertarian Andy Horning know, he has been calling for a return to the "rule of law" and for restoration of respect and adherence to what are the greatest, highest laws of our nation, our Constitutions. As it turns out, a casual conversation between Indianapolis Libertarian Sean Shepard and his Republican State Senator Mike Delph (district 29) regarding the 2008 Oklahoma Resolution piqued Senator Delph's interest. In January, Mr. Horning passed along a copy of a resolution he had drafted over the years that was very similar in tone to the Oklahoma Resolution and Senator Delph responded that he thought this might be the sort of thing he could support.

Libertarian Andy Horning appeals to undecided voters

Reprinted from the Indiana Daily Student.

BLOOMINGTON, IN -- IU students’ opinions on Tuesday night’s gubernatorial debate at the IU Auditorium are as different as the candidates they support. But students interviewed could agree Libertarian Andrew Horning – who in the past has complained about a lack of equal coverage – left his mark on the audience.

Horning attacked Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, Democratic candidate Jill Long Thompson and the parties they represent at the last of three debates which took place Tuesday night.

Undecided voters and sophomores Eli T. Drumm and Josh Hall said they attended the debate without knowing who they were going to vote for.

“I was very impressed with Horning’s knowledge of government, and it really seems he’s read a lot and has a very formulated and philosophical view of government,” Drumm said.
