Barr Condemns Newest Bailout
Submitted by lpin on Thu, 12/18/2008 - 09:55 |
ATLANTA, GA -- Former Congressman Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party's 2008 presidential nominee, issued a statement condemning the proposed $15-billion bailout of the auto industry apparently nearing approval in the Congress. Barr said “the Faustian bargain” the Big 3 automakers reached with lawmakers “compounds the problem” of the massive bailouts backed by Congress and the Bush Administration, and apparently is structured so as to give the federal government a degree of involvement and control of GM, Ford, and Chrysler that the companies “will live to regret.”

The Liberal Case for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party
Submitted by lpin on Mon, 11/03/2008 - 13:36 |ATLANTA, GA -- Barack Obama is going to win the presidency. While the end of the current era of Republican mismanagement may be good news in many respects, this is no cause for complacency for anyone concerned about American liberty and America's place in the world. Senator Obama, despite his eloquent call for reform, has demonstrated that he, like other politicians, is ever ready to trim his sails to gain a few votes. A vote for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party would be the best way to tell President-elect Obama that the American people are serious about real change in Washington.
Sen. Obama's rhetoric is uplifting and positive, but the Senator who showed genuine foresight and courage in opposing the Iraq war spent most of the primary season edging away from his initial tough stand. Will he order the troops to exit Iraq? Will he bring them all home, or simply shift them from Iraq to another foreign country?

Republicans Accuse Democrats of “Socialism,” but Republican Bailouts-Without-End are as Big Government as it Gets
Submitted by lpin on Mon, 10/27/2008 - 22:17 |ATLANTA, GA -- Sen. John McCain accuses Sen. Barack Obama of being a “socialist,” but it is President George W. Bush, supported by Sen. McCain, who has done the most to socialize the U.S. economy. Courtesy of the Republican Party, the federal government is set to own a sizeable chunk of the housing, auto, banking and insurance industries, as well as pieces of individual companies lining up to sell securities to Washington. Even individual homes, with Uncle Sam preparing to become the mortgage guarantor of last resort, are the targets of nationalization.
What will be left for the next president to socialize?
Democracy Subverted for the Benefit of Technology
Submitted by lpin on Fri, 10/24/2008 - 18:06 |ATLANTA, GA -- A U.S. Federal District Judge yesterday allowed the state of Connecticut to keep Libertarian Presidential Nominee Bob Barr off the November ballot despite Barr meeting the legislative requirements for ballot access.
The Libertarian Party of Connecticut properly submitted over 12,000 signatures to meet the 7,500-signature requirement of the state.
The state miscounted the number of petitions submitted by the Libertarian Party of Connecticut and improperly struck hundreds, if not thousands of voter signatures denying Bob Barr access to the ballot. The administrative mistakes of the state bureaucracy were quickly uncovered.
Judge Janet Hall, based her decision on the inability of the state to quickly reprogram electronic voting machines and reprint machine-readable ballots before the election.
Investigate Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Lobbying
Submitted by lpin on Tue, 10/21/2008 - 09:22 |ATLANTA, GA -- “Ground zero of today’s economic crisis was irresponsible mortgage lending by government-backed enterprises, most notably Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,” explains Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. “Yet, Freddie Mac spent extravagantly to prevent Congress from imposing even loose controls over its operations. We need a full and open investigation of Freddie Mac’s lobbying practices, which have cost the taxpayers so much money,” notes Barr.
“The role of Democrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd in protecting Fannie and Freddie from meaningful federal oversight is well-known. But now increasing information is coming out on Freddie Mac’s lavish payments to Republican Party consultants to protect the organizations as they drove the entire U.S. economy into the ground,” observes Barr.
