6th District

Bell: Guilty as charged...

HAGERSTOWN, IN -- In a recent Courier Times article, my honorable Republican opponent for this fall's District 54 race, Tom Saunders, states that "Rex wants you to do away with a lot of government, but I'm not sure that's what the public wants." He's right about me wanting to do away with a lot of government.

PTSD: Our Military's Incurable Disease

RUSHVILLE, IN -- " Why should those Americans with the least to lose; the children of the poor, the minorities and the blue collar families suffer and die?"

That's the question George Holland wants our military and political leaders to answer. Holland is taking this question to the campaign trail in his bid for the 6th District U.S. Congressional seat currently held by Republican Mike Pence.

Instances of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are on the rise, particularly in our returning troops from the war in the Middle East.

Consider this, according to Veterans Administration (VA) statistics, Joseph Galloway of McClatchy Newspapers reports in a December 2007 article that an average 18 veterans commit suicide each and every day. That's 126 veterans who kill themselves every week. That is twice the rate of other Americans.

Holland Announces Run for U.S. 6th District Seat

RUSHVILLE, IN - George Holland of Rushville, an Air Force veteran, announced he will seek Indiana's 6th District congressional seat as a member of the Libertarian Party.

He is challenging U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., the incumbent, and Democrat Barry Welsh.

Fixing the economy by ending deficit spending, ending the war in Iraq and saving Social Security are his main concerns.

"President Bush's tax cuts, endorsed by Rep. Pence, have continued to create enormous budget deficits but also an enormous concentration of wealth for the top 20 percent of income earners and an ever increasing tax debt burden for America's families," Holland wrote in a release.
